Position Purpose:

This position provides daily onsite human resources support for Doctors Foster and Smith ('DFS'). Work is both consultative and process-focused and provides human resources support, services, tools and strategy that help lead to the successful achievement of business goals and positive partner engagement. The position will serve as the primary HR partner to DFS and the DFS leadership team.


Essential Job Functions: The incumbent must be able to perform all of the following duties and responsibilities w ith or without a reasonable accommodation.

  • Coach and consult a variety of leaders on issues affecting partner engagement, performance, development, and workforce planning and design, and people effectiveness. Gather and analyze fact-based information to identify trends or patterns, determine root causes, arrive at valid conclusions, and recommend appropriate plans of action.
  • Provide guidance on, and help conduct, the investigation of employee relations complaints and concerns that could result in legal ramifications or organization exposure; assess the severity, involve appropriate individuals and facilitate action based on established practice. Work with state/federal agencies, and internal resource partners as needed to ensure compliance with applicable standards, guidelines, and regulations.
  • Model and influence change management initiatives with DFS leaders in order to address issues that will enhance overall performance, such as changes in organizational structure, staffing strategy, policies, performance, and partner development.
  • Facilitate performance, talent review, and succession planning discussions, including career-pathing and retention of top performers within DFS. Provide guidance on calibration and performance distribution guidelines throughout the year and consult on performance feedback/coaching provided to people leaders for partner development.
  • Lead, direct, coach and develop the HR staff for personal and professional development, and business support.
  • Provide strategic direction, reinforcement and coaching to ensure alignment of Petco CO values and DFS leadership direction that enables a sustainable partner engaging environment.

Supervisory Responsibility:


This position will generally have 2 direct reports as HR support staff. This position will advise DFS leadership as the content expert and cross functional lead for union awareness and avoidance.


Work Environment:


The majority of the job duties are performed indoors in a typical office environment occasional exposure to external hazards. Minimal day and overnight domestic travel may be required throughout the year to attend meetings and conferences.

Education/Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field of study, and minimum of 3 years of progressive experience leading an HR team, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.HR Certification (PHR or SPHR) preferred.Full knowledge of legal implications of the employment relationship and a thorough understanding and application of internal and external HR principles, concepts, practices and standards.Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communications and presentation skills.

Ability to communicate with all levels of partners and management, including senior leaders.Excellent project management skills along with negotiation, mediation, and conflict management skills.Excellent critical thinking and analytical skills.



Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
